Sandton

We were really surprised to find this beautifully proportioned modernist gem hidden in the suburbs of Sandton. The owner, a local photographer asked us to develop a concept for the addition of a photographic studio to the house along the street edge. Her intention was to use it for her own photographic business as well as to rent it out as a space to photographers. Grappling with the public and private aspects, the photographic process as a spatial enquiry, as well as harnessing and respecting the aesthetic of the existing structure was a satisfying task.
